Education

I grew up in Lincoln County, TN and graduated from what was then Central High School. I attended UAH for 1 year and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Tennessee Tech University. I later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education/Social Science from Athens State University. In addition to Social Science courses, I am certified to teach English/Language Arts.

I have completed the following training: Positive Behavioral Supports, Lee v. Macon Awareness, Technology in Motion, Making Sense Strategies, MOODLE, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, along with other professional development opportunities. I feel very honored to have recently attended a workshop about the Medal of Honor and to have met Mr. Leo Thorsness, a Vietnam era POW and recipient of the Medal of Honor for his bravery.

Experience

As my children have grown, I have taught preschool, middle school, and high school students.  I have taught American History at the Career Technical Center since February of 2004. This position offers the opportunity to meet students from all over Limestone County.

Bio

I am a native of Tennessee and have lived in Alabama since 1991. My husband and I met at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN, and have been married nearly 29 years. We have 3 children - ages 24, 20, and 15.  We have 3 cats (Timber, Fudgie, and Snickers) who live indoors with us.  My whole family enjoys watching sports and cheering on the Atlanta Braves, Tennessee Volunteers, and Tennessee Titans. Our oldest daughter is married to her sweetheart, a TN native and avid UT fan, so he fits right into our family!

I am a member of Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society, Who's Who Among America's Teachers, Cambridge Who's Who for Professionals and received the Outstanding Social Science Major Award & Secondary Professional Promise Award from Athens State University. I am honored to have been named the school level Teacher of the Year for 2008.
