Social Studies

I grew up in Lincoln County, TN, and graduated from what was then Central High School and attended UAH for 1 year. I transferred and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Tennessee Tech University and began a career in the insurance field. After moving to Alabama I later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education/Social Science from Athens State University. In addition to Social Science courses, I am certified to teach English/Language Arts.

I have completed the following training: Positive Behavioral Supports, Lee v. Macon Awareness, Technology in Motion, Making Sense Strategies, MOODLE, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, along with other professional development opportunities. I feel very honored to have recently attended a workshop about the Medal of Honor and to have met Mr. Leo Thorsness, a Vietnam era POW and recipient of the Medal of Honor for his bravery.

As my children have grown, I have taught preschool, middle school, and high school students.  I have taught American History at the Career Technical Center since February of 2004. This position offers the opportunity to meet students from all over Limestone County.

Originally a native of Tennessee, my family and I have lived in Alabama since 1991. My husband and I met at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN, and have been married 33 years. We have 3 children - 2 are grown and the youngest is a junior in college.  We have 3 cats (Timber, Fudgie, and Snickers) who live indoors with us.  My whole family enjoys watching sports and cheering on the Atlanta Braves, Tennessee Volunteers, and Tennessee Titans. Our oldest daughter and her husband have 2 young children.

I am a member of Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society, Who's Who Among America's Teachers, Cambridge Who's Who for Professionals and received the Outstanding Social Science Major Award & Secondary Professional Promise Award from Athens State University. I am honored to have been named the school level Teacher of the Year for 2008.

It was a pleasure to have partnered with Mr. Jackie McLemore in the spring of 2005 to charter the first LEO Club in Limestone County. During our time from 2005-2011 as sponsors, the LEO Club volunteer members annually provided Christmas packages for Salvation Army families and staffed the Lions Club Kiddie Carnival. Our club donated money to families in need after medical emergencies and house fires. Our volunteers also collected donations from community businesses to send to Enterprise High School after it was destroyed by a tornado. We hope our members will carry with them a sense of community spirit long after they leave our doors.

Please feel free to contact me anytime through e-mail or the school office at 233-6463. I am looking forward to a great year with my students! My e-mail address is
